Albany’s own Flatwounds are making waves with the release of their brand-new single and video, “Vilify.” The track arrives alongside the announcement that the band has officially signed with Blue Grape Music, joining one of the most exciting rosters in modern rock.
“This song was written with a lot of attitude in mind,” says vocalist Colin O’Hare. “We think it has some edge to it, which we feel is lacking in a lot of modern rock music today.”
Lyrically, “Vilify” explores feelings of being stuck or powerless — a reflection of the emotional tension that fuels the band’s sound.
Drawing influence from ’90s grunge, 2000s hard rock, and the intensity of modern hardcore, Flatwounds blend heavy, brooding riffs with melodic hooks that stick with you long after the first listen. Fans of Alice In Chains, System of a Down, and other heavy alt icons will instantly connect with the band’s thick guitars, gritty energy, and unfiltered emotion.
Flatwounds — Colin O’Hare (vocals), Matthew Degnan (guitar), David Granger (bass), and Wade Coonrad (drums) — have built a name the old-fashioned way: through relentless touring and DIY releases. Their growing catalog includes three self-released EPs — Down (2023), Raw (2023), and Drain (2024) — and an impressive list of shows with Jigsaw Youth, Show Me the Body, Eyehategod, and Wargasm (UK).
Earlier this year, Flatwounds dropped the single “case logic,” which was selected by Revolver as one of its Songs of the Week upon release. 🎬 Watch that video here.
The band is currently working on new material with plans to release an EP in 2026.
