I recently had the opportunity to attend the 40th Anniversary: The Final Chapter Tour 2017 of one of my favorite bands from my youth, Saga. It was a bittersweet moment as lead singer Michael Sadler announced during the show that the band would be calling it quits after this year, marking the end of a very successful and long run.
Saga played at the Regent Theatre in Oshawa, ON, Canada, my hometown, for a 20-song set that lasted just over an hour and 45 minutes. Seeing the band be so passionate on stage in the years leading up to this tour was not surprising, but what I saw that night really exceeded my expectations. The guys were really having fun on stage, performing at a very high level.
The setlist was an exciting mix of classics, including “On the Loose” and “Wind Him Up”, as well as some new material that really meshed with the older songs. As always, the musicianship of the band was impeccable, especially with the five-person horn section backing them up.
The crowd’s appreciation for the band was undeniable, with standing ovations before, during, and after every song. By the end of the show, I felt like I had really witnessed the end of an era, and I was glad to be part of that. It was truly a great show and one that I’ll never forget.
I would definitely recommend checking out Saga’s final tour and concert if you can. With only a few dates left, it’s your last chance to be part of this amazing legacy.
