On a frigid January evening in Toronto, The Concert Hall proved to be the perfect setting for Myles Kennedy’s The Art of Letting Go Tour. With temperatures plummeting to -17°C outside, the intimate and historic venue offered a warm reprieve for fans eager to witness one of rock’s most revered voices. Joined by supporting acts Sons of Silver and Tim Montana, the night showcased a powerful mix of talent and genuine connection with the crowd.
Arriving partway through Sons of Silver’s opening set, I only managed to catch a few moments, but their tight performance made a strong impression. Their short, punchy set featured tracks like “Read ‘Em Their Rights” and “Tell Me This,” leaving the early crowd energized and ready for the night ahead.

Direct support act Tim Montana took the stage next, embodying a gritty, ‘90s-inspired rock aesthetic. Known for tracks like “Savage” and “Devil You Know” (frequent plays on SiriusXM’s Octane), Montana captivated the audience with both his music and his charismatic storytelling.
Sharing tales of his friendship with Jerry Cantrell, his history with Charlie Sheen, and even food poisoning woes, Montana connected with the crowd on a personal level. Highlights included a fiery rendition of “Shut Me Out,” a song Cantrell himself praised, and the rocking “Mostly Stoned,” a track with a wild backstory involving a crashed car and a life-changing record deal. His set was a mix of high-energy anthems and genuine, heartfelt moments, cementing his status as a rising star in rock.

As the audience eagerly awaited what was sure to be a memorable performance, Myles Kennedy took the stage, and the atmosphere shifted into something truly special. Backed by drummer Zia Uddin and bassist Tim Tournier, the trio showed how a three-piece band could own the stage with incredible depth. The setup was simple but effective, with Myles positioned front and center, Zia’s drums behind a clear drum shield, and Tim’s bass rig to the side.
Opening with the title track from his latest album, The Art of Letting Go, Kennedy immediately showcased his unparalleled vocal range and emotive delivery. Tracks like “Devil on the Wall” and “Mr. Downside” blended introspective lyrics with soaring melodies, while older gems like “Mars Hotel” (a throwback to The Mayfield Four) and “All Ends Well” (an acoustic nod to Alter Bridge) offered fans a nostalgic treat.

Between songs, he regaled the crowd with stories from his early touring days, fondly recalling his first experience in Canada and his newfound love for Tim Hortons and their bagels with cream cheese. His impromptu “Bagel Song” had the crowd laughing, adding a playful charm to the evening.
Kennedy’s humor extended to the stage setup as well—taped to Tournier’s bass amp was a mock “Certificate of Achievement” for having the most gear for a three-piece band.
The encore closed with “Say What You Will,” leaving the crowd on a high note. The band’s chemistry, Kennedy’s undeniable talent, and the stellar production made for an unforgettable performance.
This was my first time at The Concert Hall, and it lived up to its reputation. With its wraparound balcony, friendly staff, and impressive sound and lighting, it provided an ideal backdrop for an intimate yet powerful show. A fan told me it’s their favorite venue in Toronto, and I’m inclined to agree.
Myles Kennedy delivered an emotional and masterful performance, blending powerhouse vocals with intimate storytelling. Tim Montana’s gritty rock set the perfect stage, while Sons of Silver provided an energetic opener. On a freezing January night, Kennedy and his band reminded us of the warmth and connection live music brings, leaving the crowd not just entertained, but deeply moved, proving once again that music has the power to transcend seasons and temperatures alike.
