Los Angeles rock outfit Dead Poet Society have returned with “Roach,” a new standalone single that follows last month’s release of “Sinner Systems” and continues the band’s momentum after their acclaimed 2024 album, FISSION.
Accompanied by a hypnotic and unsettling music video co-directed by frontman Jack Underkofler alongside Mindreader, “Roach” explores themes of resentment and emotional decay through both its lyrics and striking visuals.
Speaking about the track, the band explained:
“Resent. That is what this song is about. It’s about those who have wronged you, taken advantage of you, hurt you. Let the feeling fester and consume you.”
Produced by Paul Meany (Twenty One Pilots, Pierce the Veil), “Roach” was mixed by Adam Hawkins (Turnstile, Yungblud) and recorded at Valley View Studios and The Park in Los Angeles.
The new release builds on the band’s recent single, “Sinner Systems,” which marked their first new music since FISSION. That track tackled themes of excess and emotional numbness while showcasing the band’s signature blend of heavy riffs, atmospheric textures, and dynamic songwriting.
Made up of Jack Underkofler, Jack Collins, Dylan Brenner, and Will Goodroad, Dead Poet Society have steadily built a reputation as one of modern rock’s most exciting acts. Their sophomore album FISSION earned praise from critics, with Kerrang! highlighting the band’s swagger and New Noise awarding the record a perfect five-star review.
With “Roach,” the band continues to explore darker sonic territory while hinting that more new music could be on the horizon.
