Shock Rock Legend Alice Cooper Takes the Stage at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage

Known as the godfather of shock rock, Alice Cooper has been mesmerizing audiences for decades with his remarkable stage presence, powerful music, and mind-blowing theatrics.

Last night’s show at the Budweiser Stage was one of the most legendary rock and roll shows I’ve ever seen! From the moment Cooper emerged on stage, it was clear that he was out to put on a show unlike anything I’d ever experienced. His stage presence with his signature black eyeliner and menacing grin was nothing short of mesmerizing, and intense guitar riffs all night combined for an unforgettable experience.

When I arrived at the venue, I was expecting to see some wild and crazy outfits, and I was not disappointed. The fans in attendance were dressed to the nines in Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie-themed attire, from zombie nurses to battle vests and studded leather jackets with black combat boots.

The costumes were truly remarkable, and it was clear that the fans had put a lot of thought and effort into their outfits. One fan dressed as Alice Cooper himself was particularly impressive, with a realistic plastic snake wrapped around his neck. He was the epitome of Alice Cooper, and I couldn’t help but admire his dedication to the rock star.

At the start of the show, a giant newspaper declared Cooper “Banned in Canada” for alleged deeds against humanity. Four massive screens displayed pre-recorded footage and live footage of Cooper throughout the show. His costume changes were sensational—from his classic top hats, swords, cane twirling, and giant-size Frankenstein to his boa constrictor, they amazed us all.

The show reached its climax when his wife, Sheryl Cooper, who plays Marie Antoideath, placed him on a guillotine and decapitated him. This added an element of shock and awe that intensified the audience’s engagement. The crowd gasped in awe and applauded in admiration. It was a remarkable moment that will stay with everyone who witnessed it.

His 16-song set list was packed with classic Cooper songs, such as “No More Mr. Nice Guy”, “Hey Stoopid”, “I’m Eighteen,” and of course, the iconic “School’s Out. Nita Strauss was also given a solo spot. During each of these songs, Cooper was accompanied by dazzling visuals. Cooper’s vocals were as remarkable as ever, effortlessly transitioning between haunting melodies and powerful screams.

At the ripe age of 75, Cooper is still releasing new music. On August 25, 2023, his 29th studio album ‘Road’ was released. While Cooper didn’t play any songs from this album during his show, it’s definitely worth a listen.

Cooper has always been a master of storytelling, and during this concert, he brought that talent to life with plenty of help from his band of shredding guitarists (Nita Strauss, Tommy Henrikson, and Ryan Roxie), his bass player Chuck Garric, and Glen Sobel on drums. Cooper had no trouble captivating the entire audience. Near the end of the show, he climbed a podium with the American flag on either side of him and sang “Elected. The visual behind him displayed “Elect Cooper for President.

To close out the show, confetti-filled balloons bounced and exploded in front of the stage as Cooper sang the chorus to Pink Floyd’s “Another Brick in the Wall.”

In the end, attending an Alice Cooper concert is so much more than just a live performance; it’s a journey into an unforgettable world of shock rock. From beginning to end, Cooper’s mesmerizing performance, mind-blowing stage theatrics, and exceptional setlist gave us an experience that will forever be etched in our memories. His enduring influence on rock music is undeniable, and his concerts are a testament to the enduring legacy he has created.

If you haven’t experienced an Alice Cooper concert yourself, I urge you to step into the dark and bewitching world he creates onstage. It’s an exhilarating ride that will leave you breathless and craving for more. So, gear up, fellow rockers, and get ready to be shocked and thrilled by the one and only Alice Cooper!
