Enchanted Evening: Amanda Marshall’s Mesmerizing Performance at Centre in the Square, Kitchener

I recently had the chance to see Amanda Marshall perform at Centre in the Square in Kitchener as part of her tour in support of her new album, Heavy Lifting, released after a 20-year hiatus. Her new single from the album, “I Hope She Cheats,” already had everyone eagerly anticipating her show. It was a night of music, emotion, and pure joy.

The evening began with a performance by the extremely gifted Sophia Fracassi, who fully made me think of a young Sarah McLaughlin, which was the perfect way to kick off the night.

Amanda took to the stage with “Let It Rain,” in which she transported the entire room back to the ‘90s—an era when female artists truly got the recognition they deserved—with all the emotions it evoked instantly sending chills through the entire audience and giving me goose bumps in the process.

She also paid tribute to two legends during her live performance: Gordon Lightfoot and Tina Turner. She sang her heartfelt rendition of “Last Exit to Eden” in honour of Gordon Lightfoot, followed by Tina Turner’s classic hit “What’s Love Got To Do With It”.

It was a powerful and beautifully crafted tribute, and it’s no surprise that the audience was amazed. Not only did Amanda Marshall really bring these songs alive, but she also managed to honour both Gordon Lightfoot’s and Tina Turner’s legacies.

Amanda questioned the audience just prior to her encore: “Do we have any musicians and singers in the house tonight? To all my musicians and singers in the house tonight, a little free advice: This is the very best advice that I ever got. A little something I was once told: It doesn’t matter how many gold records you have.” Records are business; the stage is sole; when you come on stage, you have to play with your heart; you have to sing with your whole soul. I believe in music, and I believe in you. Amanda Marshall’s words of wisdom are truly inspiring for all musicians and singers.

All in all, her performance was heartfelt, mesmerizing, and uplifting. From start to finish, Amanda Marshall left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who attended, long after the performance ended. Her 20-year wait between albums was well worth it.

Personally, it was such an amazing experience to be in the audience. To see the energy and love of the audience for Amanda Marshall, truly one of Canada’s best female artists, was an unforgettable experience. This was my first time seeing her perform live, and she won me over and made me a fan for life. I’d highly recommend seeing her live show.
