A few days ago, I had the pleasure of experiencing my first live performance by Canadian rock legends Killer Dwarfs. Since their formation in Toronto in 1981, they have celebrated a 30-plus-year career of making truly awesome music.
The Rockpile in Toronto was the perfect venue to experience the Killer Dwarfs. From the moment the band took the stage, the crowd was in awe of their presence. Lead singer Russ jumped right into their catalogue of music and sang with a power and emotion that must be seen to be believed. Drummer Darrell commanded the stage with big beats that fit perfectly with the band’s sound. Some bands have a great singer but lack good instrumentation; however, that isn’t the case here. Guitarist Gerry and bassist Johnny both created intricate and intense grooves in perfect sync.
The Killer Dwarfs don’t just bring amazing music to the table, however. They also know how to engage with their fans, which really made the show special. Singer Russ was constantly interacting with the crowd, and bassist Johnny loved to joke around while offering the fans several opportunities to get up close and personal with the band.
Overall, it was an amazing night. The Killer Dwarfs never fail to disappoint, and I would highly recommend catching one of their live shows if you ever get the chance. They prove time and time again that they are one of the most underrated bands of the past 30 years. Keep that spirit alive!
