Anvil @ The Rockpile, Toronto Metal on Metal

Concert Review: Anvil at The Rockpile, Toronto

Last night, I saw Anvil at the Rockpile in Toronto, and while they didn’t quite live up to their legendary status, they put on an entertaining show that was well worth my $25 ticket price! Here are my quick thoughts on the show.

Preparation (reviewers)
This was my second time seeing the Canadian thrash metal veterans live. They’re a tight band with a lot of energy, and they seem to really enjoy what they’re doing. They played a long set full of material from their first four albums, including tracks like March of the Crabs and 666. I’d recommend checking them out if you get the chance.

Setlist – Seasons Wither
The set list included many of the band’s more popular songs including March of the Crabs, 666 and This is Thirteen. They also played a few new ones from their latest release.

Setlist – March of the Crabs
Anvil brought an energetic set to the stage with a mix of classics and some newer songs. There were two highlights of the night for me. First was March of the Crabs, a song about how society is always pushing people away for one reason or another. The other highlight was 666, which is about how we are all controlled by our own fears. It closed out their set in an intense way that left us begging for more.

Setlist – This Is Thirteen
Anvil opened their set with the title track to their latest album, This Is Thirteen. This is a song that reminds us of the band’s ever-present sense of humour. The crowd was in a good mood before they had even heard an original song! Their next three songs were all from the new album. They played March of the Dogs which is about dangerous dogs and how they should be put down if they attack someone.

Setlist – Metal on Metal
Anvil started the show with their most popular song Metal on Metal and did not disappoint. They followed it up with a few more songs off of their latest album Hope in Hell before playing two classics; Forged in Fire and March of the Crabs.
There was an amazing energy in the room as they played some of their older material like Another Day in Paradise which is more mellow compared to their newer material.

Encore – Skyscraper
Anvil played a fantastic show. They played a mix of songs from their entire catalog including old and new favorites. One of the highlights for me was their encore which consisted of Skyscraper. I was singing along to the song in my seat and rocking out with everyone else by the end of it.

The Setlist is down below and don’t forget to leave a comment 🙂
